Websites Dominating Google Search in the Laptop Niche [Study]

In this article:
Last month, I found myself on a mission to find the perfect laptop for my needs. With so many brands, models, and specifications to consider—and my twisted decision to avoid a MacBook—the sheer variety was overwhelming.
As I dove into the research, pouring over specs, reviews, and online discussions, I noticed a pattern: certain websites kept popping up in my Google search results more frequently than others. So I started wondering—what sites are dominating the search in the laptop market?
Fortunately, with access to Ahrefs, I had the perfect tool to explore this question further.
Methodology
To get started, I used Ahrefs’ Keywords Explorer, seeding it with around 30 hand-picked keywords related to laptops. This generated a list of approximately 1.3 million keyword suggestions. I then filtered this down, exporting the top 10,000 keywords with the highest search volumes into a spreadsheet.

Next, I fed these 10,000 keywords back to Ahrefs’ Keywords Explorer and used the “Traffic share by domain” report for the US. This report revealed which domains captured the most organic search traffic for those keywords, giving me a clear picture of the top players in the laptop niche.

Because it took very little time and effort to get the results, I repeated this exercise for the UK, Canada, India and Australia as well.
The results
Without further ado, the results are in:

Final Words
As anticipated, e-commerce giants like Amazon and Best Buy dominate organic search across most regions.
However, local players such as Flipkart, Currys, and JB HI-FI are capable of outperforming these giants in their respective markets. Exploring the SEO strategies that allow these local companies to succeed could be the focus of my next research.
Interestingly, Reddit stands out as a major player in the US, but its influence doesn’t seem to extend to other English-speaking countries. Google’s preference for Reddit appears to be a uniquely US phenomenon.
If you found this study insightful, you can easily replicate it in any other niche and country using Ahrefs’ Keywords Explorer.
